Crosscountry trekking with huskies and pulkas on the tracks of the past
Our route leads us mostly on prepared trails from the hiking enter Kylmäluoma (Kuusamo) to the national park Iso Syöte. We stay overnight forestry cabins and cosy loghouses of the more modern times! These beautiful landscapes we experience with our huskies, who are pulling a pulka (luggage sledge) for us. We are only fixed with a rope to the pulka and follow our 4 legged friends! A great adventure – which allows us, to ski longer distances in a day!

Programme

1st day: Transfer from the airport Kuusamo to the Hotel Herkko. Dinner together with the group. First information on the coming week. Sauna. Overnight.

2nd day: Today we train our skiing skills on the tracks around the hotel. In the morning still without dogs and polkas – after lunch in the hotel we take as well our dogs with us. In the evening information and preparation of the coming tour. Sauna, Dinner overnight in the hotel.

3nd day: After a transfer to our starting point Kylmäluoma we head out for our first stage to the forestry cabin Harjajärvi. Lunch during the trek on a convenient spot. The route is approx. 21 km and leads across frozen lakes and swamps and trough beautiful winter forests. All along a route prepared by snowmobiles (no official crosscountryskiing track!) In old times the cabin Harjajärvi was the home for approx. 100 forestry-workers, who lived very hard times with logging. A part of the century about which we like to tell much more in the hot sauna. Dinner. Overnight.

4th day: This stage leads along a wonderful lake, further through open hills to Susijärvi (wulflake) where we will eat lunch. After this relaxing break we ski further to Ylimaa, a cottage nearby the traditional village Taivalkoski situated on a beautiful small lake. As well today we enjoy prepared routes. After Sauna and dinner overnight (Distance approx. 20 km)

5th day: After the breakfast our route leads us further across beautiful hillsides with a great scenery – almost all over driven trails. When we reach the small farming village Raappanan we ski for a while on the frozen large rive Iijoki until we reach our cottage Ooka Stoppi over some last kilometres on prepared trail. Dinner, Sauna and overnight (Distance approx. 24 km)

6th day: Along snowmobile trails (which are all seldom used) we ski further to the Iso Syöte national park. Depending on the condition of the group we ski even up to the top of Pikku Syöte… with a marvellous scenery (distance about 18 - 20 km). Transfer back to the hotel Herkko. Sauna and last dinner with the group together…

7th day: After breakfast transfer to the airport.
