The King’s Trail is one of the best known and most hiked trails in Scandinavia. It leads from Abisko in the North of Sweden to Hemavan in the South. We hike through the most beautiful parts of the King’s Trail: Mostly above the tree line through large mountain valleys, over high plateaus, along roaring rivers and silent lakes. We have the possibility to climb the highest mountain of Sweden and enjoy a stunning view over the peaks of the whole area.

Program
1st day: Transfer from the airport to Kiruna.
Shopping. Transfer with the public bus to Nikkaluokta. Preparing the tour.
Dinner.
2nd day: Nikkaluokta – Kebnekaise
fjäll station, 19 km, 6 – 7 hours. The trails lead us still all along the
valley to the Laddjujavri Lake. After the lake the trails leads further through
the Nikkavalley – we already can enjoy the view to the mountains Tuolpagorni.
We are reaching the Kebnekaise fjell station, where we set up our tent and
prepare the dinner. A small shop is available as well as sauna for an additional
fee.
3rd day: Kebnekaise fjäll station
– Singi, 14 km, 5 hours. This stage is shorter and after a bit more difficult
start very easy. It leads still through a beautiful valley – both sides with
impressive mountains. After a while we leave the most impressive mountain
Tuolpagorni behind us and reach a high plateau with rough stony mountains
beside. The landscape reminds a little bit of pictures from the moon. A last
small and cold lake “Lassajavri” invites for a short bath before we reach
our next stage Singi. Overnight in tents.
4th day: Climb of Kebnekaise toppen 2117
m – about 18 km – 13-15 hours If the weather and conditions are ok, we climb
today the Kebnekaise - the highest peak in Sweden. With its 2117m still a
challenge for us… It is not a must to join, it is also possible to make relaxing
day in the cabin or just do small walks around the area. In the evening we
stay in the same place overnight in tents. If the weather does not allow us
to climb Kebenekaise, we take today the stage of day number 5 and will have
a rest day afterwards.
5th day: Singi – Kaitumjaure (small
shop), 13 km, 4 – 5 hours. The today’s trail leads still through treeless
areas on partly hard partly soft underground through the valley of the Tjäktjajakka
(river). During the whole day we enjoy a marvellous view to the surrounded
high snowy peaks, rocky walls and side valleys. For the first time we hike
in kind of a forest. Some very small arctic birches grow in this area. We
reach the big lake Kaitumjaure and the Kaitum cabins, where we pitch up our
tents. In this area are living the biggest moose of Europe. If we are lucky….!
In the cabins is as well a very small shop. If we didn’t climb Kebnekaise
we enjoy here a break day.
6th day: Kaitumjaure – Teusajaure
(sauna add. fee), 9 km, 3 hours. Early in the day we cross the impressive
river “Kaitumjakka” by a bridge and continue our way. After a little stony
uphill we reach a beautiful high plateau, from where we can see already the
snowy mountains of the well known Sarek National park in the west of us. After
the plateau the trail leads steep down through a light birch forest. A marvellous
view down to the lake Teusajaure lets us taking pictures again and again.
Many people call this as the most beautiful valley Sweden’s… on the shore
of the Teusajaure we reach our next stage. The cabins of Teusa… well known,
for its rich fauna.
7th day: Teusajaure – Vakkotavare,
16 km, 5 – 6 hours. Our last hiking day. First we have to cross the lake Teusajaure
by rowing boat. On the other side of the lake we step into the “Stora Sjöfallets-Nationalpark”.
We have to climb on our trail back up through a beautiful birch forest (sometimes
pretty steep). Small rests and again sights back to the great Teusavalley
makes the climb easy! Up on a plateau the trail is for a while very easy until
we reach a stony area, where the path leads through all these rocks and stones.
It’s a great place… full of small creeks and ponds and a lot of flora. Heading
again downhill (some parts steep!) We can see already from far the lake “Suorvajaure”,
where our tour ends in Vakkotavare. After a short rest transfer to Kiruna.
Overnight in a youth hostel.
8th day:Transfer to the airport Kiruna.
The tour can be as well organised the other way around - from Vakkotavare
till Nikkaluokta - depending on circumstances and conditions.
